Are you a Stay at Home Daddy or a Working Daddy?

Working Daddy: I work full-time on a strange shift pattern which has been made very flexible by my family friendly employer and kind boss. My wife works full-time also. She works Monday to Friday with 3 days from her office and two days from home. We arrange our shifts around each other which was a bit complicated to set up but now it means that can cover all the childcare between us and still have family time. This is a great balance as we get plenty of one to one time with the little man and everything else is the three of us. The sacrifice? Personal time. Boo Hoo. I’d much rather spend time with them anyway.

  • Would you have it any other way?

I’d love to be a stay at home dad. Apparently I wouldn’t say that if I actually was. This would take a lottery win though.

  • Do you co-change dirty nappies? Even the very smelly ones?

Of course. If I’m about, it’s my job. Although with pre-school a month away, we’ve had to nail the potty training. So now I’ve got a break until the next one (baby).

  • A little fairy gives you the possibility of breastfeeding? Are you going for it or do you run away?

I’d definitely have done it. My wife was a trooper and this was a particularly traumatic time for us. I’d have done anything to take away her pain. We suffered majorly from Mastitis. I will get around to writing my own post on the subject eventually. She soldiered on for 7 months against the advice of doctors, midwives and even the BF advocates. What a hero! I have so much more to say on this subject… Yes. Yes is my answer. In a heartbeat.

  • What is the one must-have item for a daddy?

Baby (everything) wipes. Huggies Pure by preference. They are amazing.

  • How many kids do you plan on having?

One more. Always one more.

  • Lads’ nights? How often do you have them?

No thanks. I never have. I didn’t even have a stag do.

  • Your children’s favourite achievement?

At two the little man could identify 95% of cars on the road and from some distance. I am proud of this but it was his doing, I just helped him once I noticed his enthusiasm. Whilst this is cool, I also believe it is important from a security perspective. If he ever sees something he needs to tell to the police this will be a big help.

  • What is your best memory with your kid(s)?

I love every minute. If I had to pick one I’d say when he took his favourite teddy to soft play and then sent him down the slide. He made sure he was sitting comfortably and talked him through what was going to happen. If ever I needed to video a moment, it was that. He was one at the time.

  • Name one thing you miss since being a daddy?

Sleep.

  • Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now? And we mean YOU DADDY, not the mummy!

Who cares? I don’t. I’m happy and I’m sure all the running around keeps me fit-ish. Just out of interest though I’ll go have a look….

… I’m back. I’m currently 17st 13lb (115kg) Is that a lot?

  • Dream holiday with your kids?

Exactly! The question includes the answer… Okay, probably a Royal Caribbean Cruise. Don’t care where as long as it’s safe.

  • Dream holiday without your kids or even without the other half? (You’re allowed to dream)

Bora Bora, but I’d settle for anywhere with a comfy bed and deep bath.

  • How has your life changed since having kids?

Immeasurably for the better. I’ve always wanted kids so this seems like natural progression. I read the other day that 45% of pregnancies are unplanned. That’s sad.

  • Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”

He says “You’re my best friend” or “I love you daddy” I also like watching him be kind to other kids.

  • Favourite beers brands and football team?

Was this question on #TheMummyTag? Okay okay okay. Beer? Probably Wychwood (www.wychwood.co.uk/) Although I like anything a bit different. No Bitter or Stout though and definitely not Stella Artois although I love their adverts.

Football? Chelsea (less so since Frank Lampard left). There is an upcoming blog post on this exact combined subject. Watch this space.

  • Huggies or Pampers?

Easiest question yet. Strictly Pampers for nappies. (Baby Dry for when they’re asleep and Active Fit for when they’re awake.) And equally strictly Huggies for Wipes. Preferably the Pure ones but whatever’s on offer (under a pound).

  • Have you always wanted kids?

Always. Always. Always. Always.

  • Best part of being a dad?

Being a dad.

  1. Thank you so much for taking part! This is fabulous that your boss arranged your shift to suits your new lifestyle! I can’t believe you didn’t have a stag do! You are amazing. I bet my partner will have a massive one when (BIG IF actually) we get married… 45% pregnancies are unplanned? Wow, I knew it was high. I can’t stop thinking about people who actually want babies but can’t… Fab post! Well done for completing this challenge. #thedaddytag
